Recommend me a hat

Hey guys,

At nearly 42 years old, I'm losing my hair. It's thinning noticeable at the front, and also got the monk look going on at the back (pattern baldness).

I've never really liked hats, but I think it's now time to get one and get used to it. I'm too old for baseball caps, and beanie hats make me think of East 17.

So what other choices are there??

Happy to accept comedy suggestions too...

Well, I too have got a bit of a hole in my hair but I’ve got 20 years on you. I’m thinking I’m now ready for a Panama hat. Lightweight, foldable and does the job - which is to make me look and sound like a right old bastard. :LOL::LOL:

I have various hats for the various occasions, flat cap for in the car, especially the convertible, light weight panama for the terrasse, trilby for the formal occasions, fedora for the less formal occasions, and western style leather hat for out in the field on sunny or wet days.
I also have a full head of hair, so it's not to cover any baldness.
Go to a decent men's hat shop and look around.
 
Grade 1 all over. Pretend your Vin Diesel. Dont be ashamed. Possibly a high test level caused it. Go tiger.
 
The usual suspects on here could probably use one of these...

Appropriately small for the brain size, although the 'extension' is way more than a tad hopeful for them...

If you are thinking about going abroad like say France for example ??
Get a hat with some type of safety feature inbuilt just in case some one try’s to mug you :mrgreen:

As per #5, you'll need a number of hats. Unlike as per #5 and as per #1, I have no natural protection.

For sunshine non-smart use I have a Tilley, and for smarter a fabric lined straw hat. Not a proper Panama - they are ferociously expensive, and if theyre not they will fall apart.

For wet weather use Ive got a waxed cotton Tilley (again not smart, but works very well), and for smarter a water repellent Fedora from Orvis. Bought the Tilley just a tad too small so that it stays on when the wind blows.

Drizabone is another good make.

"country living" fairs/outdoorsy shows/agricultural shows are handy places to go to find different sellers in one place.

When its cold I wear a beanie (Dickies do a Thinsulate one at a good price) and stuff what anybody thinks it looks like. Their problem, not mine, as I cant see it and Im warm and cosy.

Also I have a bump cap for when I'm at risk of knocking/scraping my head. If youve not found yet, (you will) quite minor encounters with, say, loft timbers, which would be no problem at all if you had hair, will give you an uncomfortable graze.
