I am now too old to split logs manually, I have been using a Ten Ton Chinese log splitter for a couple of years, just the ticket but unfortunately it has packed up (burnt out motor), I have had enough of throwing good money after inferior Chinese badged machines which all seem to have 3Kw motors. I guess European machines are constrained in the size of motor used and most seem to be 2.2 Kw, therefore I have come to the conclusion rightly or wrongly that a 2.2 kW machine needs to be 2 speed with a dual pump to cope with knotty wood. Does anyone have experience of a better machine and can recommend a machine (Vertical Single Phase) with a height limitation of 2 metres please.

I’ve had a Clarke Machine Mart H5 with a stand for years now, and it has had some serious grief.
For around the £400 mark it has been very good. Only 5 tonnes of pressure though, and undoubtedly Chinese.
