Hi everybody,

Just had a white oak stair put in and need to have it finished.
What would you recommend (pro & cons), I was thinking to use Danish oil like I used on the windows?
The plan is to put a stair runner & copper rods on it at a later stage (when SWMBO has chosen one and we have the funds available).
Many thanks for your help.

Greetings,

Danish Oil could be used but it is dependent on which brand you buy. Think you'd be better going for a Polyutehane Varnish Satin, it will bring out the natural grain of the wood and the satin produces a very subtle satin/matt looking finish. The only problem with Danish Oil and PU is that they both tend to slightly yellow over a period of time.

If you're for a finish that will not go yellow, then I'd recommend a single pack Waterbased finish something like Aquacoat SP
This product will give you the same effect as if you will get if you go and run a damp cloth over the bare timber - it will not change colour over time.

Hope this is of some assistance but please come back with any other questions.
