despite householders being told to carefully sort there rubbish .us the taxpayers could be forced to foot the bill for storing it, firms are struggling to cope to shift it from the depots ,about 100,000 tonns of cardboard and paper are piled up with no were to go. private firms contracted to deal with the waste are charging the local authorities storage , so again a rise in rates is on the cards to cover the cost., recycling my ar#s, its all a con

running out of places to bury it and running out of places to store it.

any suggestions?

i suppose burning it would be too eco-unfriendly.

Cardboard? All the major supermarkets recycle cardboard and plastic, I dont see why they have such a big problem with it.

I've done my bit.

I have recycled the five various containers which the council has delivered for collecting different types of rubbish

Everything just goes in a black sack and be done with it

The problem is that there is now so much recycled paper & cardboard that the supply out does the demand for it.

The prices for recycled paper etc have dropped so much that it may now be cheaper to just burn it. :(

we don't actually do the recycling though do we?

all we do is separate our trash.

edit: the above is reference to woody's' post.

Get one b1n, put your rubb1sh 1n, let the counc1l sort 1t, that's what they get pa1d for.

No longer shall 1 try to help by re-cycl1ng, to be charged extra, then be mugged aga1n. then told my mrs 1s a l1ar, and her b1n wasn't out!!!

Back to p1key land.

in what way?
The company I work for, this is how it works.

On every ambient delivery, there is one mesh roll cage with 4 sides and a lid. This is sent back full of plastic wrap (loose - 4 sides means we dont need to bag it up). We then use as many other normal cages as we need to send our cardboard back to the distribution centre.

The DC has a recycling centre, where they bale up the cardboard and plastic.

I have no idea what they do with it after this. But at least it doesn't end up in landfill.

I know that other supermarkets use the same return system using roll cages.

in april we in cumbria are all having new bins half the size off what we already have  to make us recycle more , we already have three bins ,guess we will be burning more me thinks , or dumping in the lakes . only joking as if i would ,but others may ,oh and the rates are going up 4.8 % min.

you'd better hope his p,s,o and f keys are bust aswell

Our local authority does little in the way of recycling, we still have black sacks of which we can put any number outside our property and they take the lot. I had a clearout of my garage and put about 30 black sacks out containing all sorts of old 5h1te and they took it all.

They send an advance party out to gather the sacks into strategic piles in the roads and the truck arrives about 30 minutes later to clear the piles.
This offers a fantastic window of opportunity to place any spurious items on one of the piles  . I have left them shower screens, old basins, toilets, and my crowning glory was a complete bathroom suite

They take it every time, they have to really cos otherwise they would have to leave it in the middle of the street.

bilioustrumpstain. you lucky sod.dont tell anybody or we will all move to your street

bilioustrumpstain. you lucky s**.dont tell anybody or we will all move to your street

I know, good innit.

I would happily take the spurious items to the tip but as I am in a van it is a no-no. I would happily pay a few quid to dump stuff but they want me to take it to a commercial site, queue up, get weighed off, then dump stuff. It would cost me half a day in time which I would struggle to bill to my clients.

I would not fly tip but I can understand why people do it.

Local tips should be able to use their discretion and charge a minimal amount for dumping say a toilet and a bag of general waste from the back of a van.

I used to own an old volvo which I bought purely for dumping old carp but it got to dear to run.
