Need some remedial wiring doing on a ring circuit for 4 bed house that does the whole house apart from kitchen, can redundant cables be left in backboxs that are still used for the new cables and sockets, the unused cables would be placed in connectors and marked up as redundant.

Basically yes, I prefer to connect them to earth to remove chance of induced/capacitive stray voltages on it. Others have differing opinions and there is no definitive answer.

The unused cables will be live for a week or so until the old ring is completely ripped out from consumer unit and new radials placed downstairs all unused cables in used or unused sockets will then be connected to earth and will mark then up as redundant for belt and braces
