Refinsh Pine Table

I have a large kitchen table made of solid pine and this had been finished in some form of clear (or maybe pine) semi-matt varnish.

It's in need of resurfacing ... happy to sand down and prep .... are there any particular varnish types that are best suited to a table finish.
