Hello everybody,

We have a woodburning stove in our lounge. The room gets very hot even with the stove on tickover; opening all the doors gets a nice background warmth all around the ground floor, and a little gets up the stairs. There is a deep alcove in the lounge that is below the stairs and landing and I am thinking about fitting a vent in the lounge ceiling and one in the landing floor to allow some of the excess heat to waft upstairs.

Before I think too much on the practicalities of the job, what I am after first is some advice on whether it is an acceptable thing to do with regards to fire regulations, ie does it present additional danger to the upstairs if there were a fire in the lounge?

The position of the ceiling vent in the lounge would be about 2m to one side of the stove, the floor vent on the landing would be offset a further 1m or so in the same direction. Hope thats clear...

Many thanks in advance

Simon

Only if your vent has a fire damper inside.
