Help please!,

I am currently boarding out my loft (1902 buildt traditional cut roof) I have 4 number V shaped diagonal struts which may be taking the weight from the horizontal purlin onto the load bearing wall below.

To maximise the storage area and install a decent loft hatch, I would like to relocate 2 and only 2 of these struts. They are 4 x 2" in size.

If I was to firstly install larger timbers say 6" x 3" further along in the same configertaion (V) shape before removing the 2 older timbers, do you think this would cause a problem?

When I say relocation, I am talking about moving the timbers along about 800mm further away. :)

installing larger timbers as support in a different location won't help, the 4x2 is sufficient to support where they are. the problem with moving them is if you are increasing the unsupported span of the purlin
