Hello,

Im looking for advice on what to do with this exisiting air vent. This air vent was part of a half wall which was fixed to some patio doors. We are currently having a renovation with the kitchen and making the kitchen and conservatory as one. Our house has a sub timber floor and conservatory is concrete. We are currently looking to join the two floors together which would mean the air vent would need to be removed. Would this be okay to do as i have another 7 telescopic vents around the house? Or is there any suggestions of an alternative method to maintain the amount ventilation for my floor?

It is possible that i could add an air brick just at the side of where the conservatory starts.

Let me know your thoughts

Thank you

Your house must have a suspended floor

The vent was left in the wall and vented into the conservatory, rather than extended with soil pipe through the Cons floor to the outside.

You can get rid of them if new ones can fitted nearby, or you can get floor void fans as an option.

If you are making the conservatory and kitchen all one room, you need building regs and given that the conservatory will not comply with elemental thermal values for walls and roof, it will require whole house heat loss calcs.

I hope your conservatory gets little to no sun or you will suffer serious temp fluctuations

OP,
Yes, no problem, simply install another air brick "at the side before the conservatory starts".

FWIW: In your pic, the old wall brickwork below floor level should be taken down another course or two.
This will give you a chance to re-build it up to a required height to make a smooth transition between rooms.

I'm surprised the connie is only blocking one vent? A new one to the side is prob's the best remedy as long as it is adventitious to the floor and done correctly.

Are you upgrading the thermal elements and involving Building Control?
