So far in my 1930s house, the cables for every socket come from under the floor. Except this one, it comes from above. And it appears to be wedged between stud and plasterboard too sure i can now see a bulge.
Drill a hole in the noggin, power off, remove socket and pull the cables back and feed through the hole instead.
Refit the socket and power on again. (inspect the cables where they were in the bump area.)
Or maybe better still, can you power the socket via under the floor and remove the only one that is from above?
The whole wall is coming out, then I'll be putting in another wall to create a corridor (there was a tiny wc in there), so might keep the power from above. Although might be easiest to come off another socket. No idea where this one goes, as I'm sure there's only one circuit.... The loft above here is boarded too...
Bungalow, so no upstairs, and the sockets in the loft are on their own circuit. WIll look behind soon, bit of a mess still.
My guess is that this goes to the boiler that is in the loft - the controls are in the next room. We know the house used to have storage heaters, and the stud wall and WC are relatively new (last 20 years I reckon) - and some of those kitchen tiles were still in the garage when we moved here. So could have been done at the same time the central heating and boiler went in.
I think I worked it out, after a dusty trip into the loft. Looks like this is the where the mains electric circuit comes down from the consumer unit, which explains the 2 cables and the fact it goes off under the floor.
My guess is that the electrics were re-done when this stud wall was put up for the WC. Discovered more junction boxes in the loft too.
up into loft
under the boarded section
down to the subfloor
This white cable connects to the boiler which can be seen in the last photo above (although not sure how the immersion heater is controlled)...
