I recently got a new combi installed in the flat but when the installer was disconnecting the old baxi (on removal of the fireplace facade) he noticed white asbestos around the wall cavity where the fireplace was.
As such he wouldn't remove the old boiler after disconnection.
I got a mate who works on commercial plumbing contracts around to look at it and he said there's no asbestos around the boiler, only in the wall. He said to get someone to PVA around the edge of the cavity to protect the asbestos, shear off the front of the boiler and make good the cavity with a bit of plastering.
I would be happy to go this way, but would welcome any further advice/opinions. The flat is a late 50s/early 60s build, so this kind of encounter with asbestos on walls can't be too uncommon.
Cheers
