I have had my hideous gas fire removed (at last) and now I am left with the marble fire surround and hearth which have been cemented in. I am wanting to remove these but keep them intact as they are wanted by a good home, any idea how to remove these without damaging them or the wall?

carefully.
the marble will be stuck back with adhesive so wen removed will pull away the plaster .. just take ur time no other way . !

You may well have to damage some of the wall as 2face says. The surround is probably secured to the wall by metal ties at the sides which you'll need to find and free from the wall by slowly and very carefully cutting away the plaster/cement. Try to keep these intact if you want to use it somewhere else.

Also, it might be in parts so be careful when removing.
