I have tried pushing upwards (and not) while twisting left and right to get the glass off

There seems to be a metal base, silicone ring, and globe
The metal base has three dimples in it

Applying too much pressure just moves the entire thing and I don't want to rip it off the ceiling

Looks like the type that twists off usually anticlockwise, might need some gentle tapping, probably just accumulated gunk stopping it

Yeah, I'm scared of breaking it as it in a friend's rented flat and I am stood on the bath in semi darkness

Do the 3 dimples conceal screws which grip a lip on the shade?

I'm with the call the landlord option.

Can't see any screws, I assume that the glass has a ridge that is broken in three /four places and the dimples sit in the gaps for removal if you manage to rotate it? Presumably the silicone ring has stuck somehow.

She's paying a lot for a ****hole so the landlord can pay

Have you tried just pulling? Might it have the kind of springs that downlighters often have: you push em on, and the spring arms splay outward to hold it?

Or, does it have a lug and gap on the circumference you line up and slip on, then twist to secure. The reverse to get it off obvs. I have one like it.

Edit: noted your dimples reference...
