This may be a totally obvious question but can anyone tell me how to remove the main body of my existing mixer tap? I have bought a new one that I need to fit but can't get the old one off! I have removed the horseshoe etc though it's still connected to the water pipes. So basically - how do I disconnect the tap from them?

Trace back from the tap body along each pipe until you come to a joint. What type of joint is it? Soldered, compression or plastic pushfit type.

If soldered joint the easiest solution is to turn off water and cut through the pipes just before the joint (ie on the side away fro the taps) with a pipe cutter not a hacksaw!! Fix new taps after screwing in the tapered tails fully. Join each tail to the corresponding pipe using a 15mm flexible braided connector with 15mm push fit couplings on each end. Best to look for these first in local B&Q etc before you do anything.
