Good afternoon all. Can anyone help. We are in the middle of an unoccupied house refurbishment. We want to remove the Primatic tank and header tank in the bathroom for building work to be done (see Diagram 1). The whole system is to be replaced by a combi in some months, but for now we wish to keep the CH only working to dry plastering etc.

Can we fit a temporary header tank connected to the old gravity pipes to keep the boiler topped up as in red Diagam 2 or is it more complex. If we can use the pipes should we cap the pipes where they entered the primatic or connect the flow and return as in Diagram 2. The old system has no thermostats, trv's, motorised valves etc, just a time clock.

Thank you.

Sorry for not labelling diagrams, Dia 2 is on left and Dia 1 on right.
Cheers

cut the primaries just before the cylinder (before the elbows) and use the return for cold feed and the flow for the vent Providing that the flow is coming of the top of the boiler which is unclear in your diagram.
