Hi I have a Serel close coupled push button dual flush cistern that i need to remove the cover from. There is no screw to undo under the push buttons and the housing/bevel will not unscrew. Any suggestions for removing the lid? Thank you

Chrome ring on lid unscrew allowing lid to be removed. Not sure you're will do that?
Try it.

Grab the ring and turn

It will not unscrew. It will rotate a little either way, but the whole assembly turns with it. The ring on top is part of the same plastic moulding that houses the two push rods.

What do you think is stopping it lifting off?
When you try to lift lid it won't budge correct?

Maybe that bigger post is a clip you move to release lid? Maybe by identifying what's stopping it coming off may give a clue.

Normally a screw inside button housing which you haven't got, so that only leaves the other sort where the chrome cup unscrews.
Look for and signs of a joint inside that could be a screw joint

the bigger post is a push rod.. No sign on any joint.
when lifting the lid it will move a mil or two, but I guess that's just the play in the linkage to the flush mechanism.

If you push rods down below cap will the chrome cap turn?

Twist and pull rods. Just try everything.

Think id give up and just get that lid off. Buy a new flushed system and get it going.

Rods will not push down below the housing. I have tried the twisting, pull, pushing combinations.
Cannot see any way of removing cistern. Other than removing whole toilet -and hard to see how do do that.

Trying to avoid the breaking the top of the button mechanism, as no way of knowing that will be repairable as this is an old Serel unit and spare parts may not be available. Note it's the filling mechanism that's the problem, not the flush.

I do not want to replace the whole toilet just to do that one repair.

I wonder if the ring has seized on its thread. Can you spray WD40 in there with the red straw and jiggle it a bit?

If not I suppose a dremel would cut it.

Does the central plastic protrusion, between the push rods, move down to allow the chromed bezel to rotate together with the rods?

Dual flush - two buttons. Chromed bezel/cap does not screw off as shown in the video.

"Does the central plastic protrusion, between the push rods, move down to allow the chromed bezel to rotate together with the rods?" If you mean the round whiter piece of plastic in the centre - It moves down with the rods. But the rods do not move below the bottom of the housing.

"I wonder if the ring has seized on its thread"
The whole housing is one piece moulding and includes the bezel . The housing and therefore the rods will rotate a little both ways. I'm assuming that is due to the play is connecting linkages somewhere. What stops the housing/bezel from lifting up, I don't know.

Will the two rods pull upwards to remove them, then unscrew the housing / chrome bezel.
Judging by the state of it it's probably seized up,and what's below in need of renewal shortly.

Does the central plastic protrusion, between the push rods, move down at all?
