I want to remove the wall (blue section). At the moment, a catnic lintel (seen as the black part in the left hand image) spans approx 2.7m between a block work wall in the middle of the house, to this wall (red sections).I have included a close up cutaway from the opposite side of the image showing the wall.

This is an image showing the construction of the wall, and the roof above.

Here is a floor plan, and one with the red/yellow sections added:

Essentially, I want/need to extend the beam by the yellow amount (approx 450mm), to the external blockwork wall. I'm after some advice/opinions on what options are available.

I have been told the small section of wall I want to remove is acting as a buttress to the external wall, and that I will need to install a wind post, and have the new beam sit on that.

It's not providing buttressing, nor is it required to.
Thanks for the reply - is there anything that makes you certain that is the case? It is attached to the end of a shortish wall, and the end of the wall appears to have a pier like construction to have the patio doors attached to it.

Yes, no typical domestic house needs buttressing from internal walls.

Any corners or returns are stronger than straight walls, that is part of the reason they are there.
The latest fashion is to remove all these, lets hope we don't have to many tremors in the future.
