Hi, looking for any advice would be much appreciated.

Currently updating a bungalow / chalet type of house, the upstairs already exists as a living space, but we need to install/upgrade insulation etc (there was only 100mm rockwool there before).

It has been suggested to keep purlin in place (as the easiest option and cheapest) but I'm wondering what anyone else thinks about the best plan to do.

I have drawn something up to which I think on how it could be done, but obviously would appreciate any thoughts on if its correct or if there is another way.
Cheers for any guidance (y)

In principle purlins can be replaced by a “dwarf wall” but you need an experienced builder or SE to advise because the load from the new wall will have to be supported by a beam

Blup

There is little to be gained by removing the purlin. Especially when you consider added insulation thickness and the uselessness of the space beyond it.

Hi,
Thanks for the help

Yeah it doesn't look like it is worth doing  Looks like I would gain about 66mm if we remove purlin.

Best to keep purlin in place then (y)
