I have an asbestos cement flue from boiler up through on to flat roof. Where the asbestos cement flue joins the CH boiler it looks like a hacksaw might be needed to cut through flue to separate it. Is this safe? or is there another way?

Thanks

If you are sure it is asbestos cement you can remove it yourself with the necessary precautions. You should wear an asbestos rated face mask, gloves and preferably overalls. Keep the flue thoroughly wet with water whilst you are cutting. Double bag the debris in 1200g polythene bags and take it to a local authority tip that has an asbestos bin. Wash any clothing immediately.

Asbestos cement is not a notifiable material but it is classes as special waste so you must be careful about how you dispose of it.

Asbestos cement should be very hard and should give a solid clink when tapped. If the material is at all soft or gives a dead sound then you should have it tested to be sure.
