Hello,

I am posting this photo that shows a portion of a wall I want to remove. It is part of what used to be an external wall (290mm thick) but became internal after someone added an extension. The wall is at ground level and supports the roof.
My question is: can I take it that any portion of the wall that is under a window, which in turn is under a lintel, is not doing any structural work and therefore can be removed together with the window? I marked, in blue, on the photo the portion of the wall I want to remove.

Also, the house is not very old (built in the early sixties) and the lintel is made of wood instead of steel or concrete. Is this common in houses as new as this one?

Thanks

As long the lintel isn't disturbed the no problem with removing the wall.

Concrete lintels re probably more common in houses of the 60s, but timber is fine as long as it's not damaged by rot or similar.
