Removing bricks from a double skinned garden wall?

Hi,

We have a wall along the side of a path (wall is around 15ft long and 6ft high).
We need to widen the path by 50mm and planned to remove one layer of bricks over a 4ft area (near the middle) so it'll be a single layer of bricks in this area - would the wall still be sturdy and safe with this done?

Well it certainly won't be as sturdy and safe as the original It may be ok but I wouldn't do it myself

A 9"thick brick wall 6' high would not nowadays be recommended because of lateral stability issues. You would be making a poor situation worse.

If the wall is "English Garden Bond" or similar ie, a course of headers every 3 or 5 courses then definitely no.

I`d drop the whole thing to no more than 4 feet - there was a 8 foot wall went over on 2 workers just last week in Eastbourne
