Hi, I am wanting to remove the chimney breast in the living room and bedroom, can anyone tell me how I would be able to check if the flue is shared and if it is possible.
1930s house is very unlikely to have any shared flue, let alone between properties. If the chimney stack is on the party wall, you can probably get the stack supported on gallows brackets. Also, have a look at The Party Wall etc. Act 1996.
Thanks for the replys. Supporting the chimney shouldn't be too difficult with gallows as sugested and also fixing floor ect, but don't want start removing the chimney only to find out that the flue is shared and have to pit it back. Just want to know how you would know for sure. Merlin50 if the chimney is on both sides of the party wall is it likely not shared, if the whole stack was on my side or neighbours side then likely to be shared.
