my wife has brought a shoe cabinet with only two back legs so has to be attached to wall. The thing is we have a dado rail and it goes above that so won’t be flush.

The lazy part of me wants to screw it anyway and think that being a few cm from wall will be ok.

The other part things I shouldn’t.

So I’ve decided not be lazy (unless people think that be fine) the plan is to use a saw to cut dado rail either end of gap and then chisel out the subsection does that seem right or does whole lot need to come off? Is there a way of doing this neatly so I can put dado rail back when she almost definitely decides she doesn’t like colour or something?

Thanks

Nick

Cut the cabinet around the rail or add timber to the back as spacers

I'm waiting for the "move house" comment :)

Can you cut the cabinet to go around the rail?

You're reasoning is fine Nick; just keep the piece safe somewhere in case you need to refit it, and chisel it off from underneath to minimise visible damage.
