Dont really wanna buy 2009 if i dont have to.

no because you will have to register it with the serial no

Norton knows the date your serial no was first registered.

however, a good ploy (after uninstalling it using the Norton Removal Tool) is to buy a new, unregistered but old stock copy on Ebay or similar, from a reputable dealer. For example buy 2008 or 2007 or even 2006 and install it, it will pick up a year's updates from the date you first register it.

As an I.T. Manager i spend most of my days configuring software like this, especially laptops.

For home user pc's i'd recommend:

Avira or AVAST (both excellent and top the charts)
Malwarebytes (for malware detection/eradication)
Super antispyware (very good)

All are free with premium products you can pay to upgrade to.
Nortons IS a resource hog, misses loads, produces false positives and worth the money.
AVG has sucked a fat one since 2008 release
Kasperksy and BitDefender are also good.

I'm not worlds no.1 authority on this, buts its my job to secure our system and i test quite a lot of them. Avira won with Avast coming a close 2nd.
FWIW.

As an IT manager I used to have chaps to do that sort of thing ;)
