Try washing powder, brush it in dry leave it for a hour then wash off,i tried it and it worked.

I know this was posted a long, long time ago. However I have the same issue so I wanted to resurrect this. I have lots of oil spots over my driveway.

I already tried biological washing powder 3 or 4 times and whilst there has been a slight improvement they are still there.

I've also tried washing up liquid and WD40 to no avail.

Screwfix sell a degreaser which has good reviews but most of the reviews say it removed oil from block paving, there is no mention of tarmac.

Is there anything else I could try?

I find that traffic film remover - from motor factors - is great for this....splash on neat, scrub and then rinse off.
John :)

Try no nonsense heavy duty degreaser from screwfix. Worked on my block paving.

Would you believe it? The halfords wheel cleaner is at the identical price. These people are in cahoots.

The tricky part is that oil is a solvent for the bitumen part of the Tarmac. Too much of any solvent will just help make the tarmac soft.

Never used this so happy to be shot down.

Would it be better to restore the drive back to black than to remove the stain?

Use products like this??

I have had a number of very old cars on my driveway, leaking oil from the engine, gearbox, diff, etc.

I can vouch for the Thompsons drive paint mentioned above. I went around the block edging of the driveway with a large paint brush, then rolled it on with a masonry roller.

Wish I had before and after pictures, but the difference on just a six year old drive was amazing.
