Hi,
I have just lifted the 1970's tiles from my bathroom floor. The tiles came up very easily, but I am left with patches of what I can only describe as a cement-type adhesive which I am trying to chisel off the floorboards. As far as I know the floorboards are oak, and the tiles have been laid directly onto them.
Has anyone got any ideas of an easier way I can get the cement off the floor? My arms are aching and I have only got a bit about 30cm square clear!
Oh, and to add to the problem I live in France, so tool hire is just about out of the question - besides I would like to get it done today before my other half gets back from a visit to the UK. :)

Well, I've done about three quarters of it, with much blood, sweat and nearly some tears (I guess there are only so many times one can hit one's thumb with the hammer before despair sets in :)) There is no way I can get it finished before the other half gets back, but at least he will be able to see the task that faced me (and, hopefully, finish it!)
So, not quite the pleasant surprise I had planned.

Brick acid will take the cement off. No idea what it will do to the wood though.
