Hi,

I need to relocate an IDC wired phone socket which will involve removal of the wires from the IDC block then rewiring using a Krone tool.

Can I just pull the wires out of the IDC block by hand or do I have to use the curved hook that is tucked away in the side handle of the Krone tool? I do not wish to damage the IDC block in the phone socket as I need to re-use it and never having done this before I am a bit unsure of the method to remove the wires.

It is better to use the curved hook, if you have one.

Otherwise grasp each side of the wire and pull straight up.

Long nose pliers on cable side and pull up.

Or just grab it and pull :D

Thanks for the replies and the reassurance that it is OK to pull it out by hook or by hand, I should be OK now.

The hook on an IDC tool is good for 'fishing' a single wire from densely populated terninations on large installations, but there's rarely much need for it when dealing with the wiring in a single phone socket.

Don't expect to be able to re-terminate the connection with the wire in exactly the same position. Once punched into the IDC block, the end of the wire is too deformed to make a reliable connection again, so snip off the end just clear of the old termination point after pulling it out.
