hi
my 1999 1.2 Clio has suddenly become hellish at starting, particularly first thing in the morning or when left for long periods.
the problem has been here for a good few months now. I try to start the car and nothing happens. Just a single clicking noise from the glovebox area. All the dash lights come up as normal and the radio comes on. Cant be battery. The immob light goes out as normal, so it cant be that. It can take around 30 turns of the key before it finally starts. The car is fine when its been running and will start again easily if its not left turned off for a few hours. There are no problems when driving, it revs and idles fine and doesn't cut out.
i've had the top dead centre (crank) sensor out a few times and cleaned it and the connections. don't think its that.
ive checked the spark plugs and they are in good condition. The engine earth strap is also in good order.
All connections to the starter motor look good, no rust and all tight.
im at my wits end now. can anyone think of anything else that may be causing this problem?
someone on another forum mentioned it could be a fault in the starter motor. ive got it booked into a garage for next week, but id have liked to have sorted this myself if possible.
ive also replaced the key fob batteries as a long shot (someone suggested that!) But again, not the problem.
it would appear that something has got worse and perhaps become broken/faulty as this issue has steadily got worse it the last few weeks, to the point its every day now.
Help!!
thanks.
