Render Cure/Hardening Time

Hi

I got some of the pebble dash on my house touched up last week prior to painting. The guy who did it used a sand and cement mix and applied it with a tyrolean gun.

It looks great and blends in well with the old stuff however after 4 days when I touch it the new stuff just crumbles into dust/sand with very little finger pressure.

I spoke to the guy who did it and he said it would take a week or so to harden.

Is that right? Will it cure/harden off at some point?

sounds like the mix was wrong perhaps and maybe the background wasn't prepped properly. - too much suction.
you can buy bags of Tyrolean for patching purposes.
you dont have to wait more than say 24/48 hrs for it to be paint dry

It’s not really any better and a week now. Would watering it with a fine spray from the hose do anything?

It’s quite sheltered that side of the house so not had any rain on it.

It going to be painted in 2 weeks and don’t really have time to redo.

In my opinion, it sounds as if it's no use. Although a sand n cement mix needs to set and cure, it shouldn't turn to powder if you touch it a week on. I think the mix was to sandy to start with, and that's where the problem lies.
I also wouldn't spray it with water.
As Bobasd said, you can buy bags of Tyrolean powder, mix it up, flick it on, and it's ready to paint in a day or so.
The mix your builder put on is not going harden at all.

Did they use a certain waterproofer in the mix I know of one particular one that if used with non compatable cements behaves in the way you have found

Rc is right if using sand and cement in a tyroleen gun you only need to use a handful of sand in a bucket of cement and it has to be mixed really sloppy
