I live in an end terrace, circa 1890, and the whole 2 storey side of my house is rendered.
There are various cracks in the render and I think damp has got in behind some bits of the render.
My two questions are:
1) Given the age of the property, can I safely removeall the render to start again, or is there a risk that trying to smash off the render will bring down the rest of the wall too?
2) If I'm planning to stay in it max 5-6 years, is it worth trying to re-render the whole thing, or for the cost saving and how little the blown render problem will affact the property over the next 5 years am I better just patching up the cracks and painting over the whole thing?
I know the right thing to do is to fix it all properly, but I'm looking for advice on the most pragmatic and cost effective way forward.
