Render, Pebbledash and Tyrolean??

Hi

I know that this may be a stupid question, but can anyone help explain the difference between render and pebbledash and what is Tyrolean?

I need to cover a new exterior wall to match the existing surface (render or pebbledash) and although I will be getting someone in to do the job, I was wondering how thick it will be once applied.

Also, I did have someone come down to give me a quote (never heard from him since) and he said that as I had built the wall in Thermalite blocks a mesh would have to be applied first so that the render would bond to the blocks, does this sound right?
