I recently built a small wall and 2 piers on a job. The walls were built of 7N concrete blocks and rendered with a scratch coat and float coat of render mixed 5:1.

The wall is 9 inch blockwork and the piers solid 18inch blockwork.

The footings were into decent ground but there was a layer of type 2 fill approx 18 inches deep so we went on down and a foot into original clay.

The paving falls away from the wall.

The wall is obviously sucking up moisture badly to the extent that its leaving tide marks on the render. It has been up for about 2 months

I am concerned that the render will be adversly affected in the long term.

Any thoughts or ideas on a solution or does it need one? what would you do?

this is coz you have taken the render to the floor and not left a DPC line??
did you use water proofer in the mix now is a good time to chop out a line about 6" wide centerd on the DPC if you can then fit a bell bead and make good

didnt read post props sorry thought it was a building wall....

did you use a water proofer in the scratch or top? why no bell
mite need to lift the pvaing next to the wall and add some gravel
or apply a tanking slurry coat or a thin coat system..

No waterproofer in either coat.

Its just a driveway wall and the paving all falls away from the wall.

Its not retaining anything.
