Hi,
I need to render some external block work, I plan to use sharp sand, cement and water in a 4,1,1 mix. I was planning on wetting the wall first and applying the mix in a 10mm layer and then scraping lines in it. I was going to then wait a week, and apply a finishing coat, and then sponge it smooth before waiting another week to paint it.

What I'm don't really understand is the type of bead I should use for the horizontal and the verticals and how I should attach them? I presume I use nails for the bottom beads, but do I fix the vertical ones with nails, or use the first cement coat to fix it?

Any tips or suggestions would be really appreciated,

Bell bead for horizontals and stop bead for verticals, I fixed with stainless steel screws straight into thermalite blocks. [will also require water proofer].

I think waterproofer goes in the scratch coat only. Wetting the wall first sounds right to stop all the moisture getting sucked out of your muck.
