We are repainting all our skirting boards. Most are in pretty good condition, just yellowed, so we are just painting over them but some have chipped off in big pieces, about 3cmx3cm revealing the wood. I'd say the existing paint job is about 7 years old and has yellowed so I'm guessing is an oil-based satinwood?

Anyway, what's the best way for me to do the sections that have chipped? Do I sand back the area around the chip? Can I then just apply paint (am using satinwood) to the directly to the sanded wood bits? The stuff/layer that has chipped off is fairly thick so I'm guessing it might be hard to blend in, but I don't want to sand the whole wall length of that bit if I don't have to.

Hope that makes sense. Any tips apreciated.

I would give it all a light sand first..just to remove any nibs etc then undercoat it...fill the chips etc touch up the undercoat then do your top coat
