Repainting ceiling after not mist costing, need advice

Hello.

One of my bedrooms had its ceiling replastered about 5 years ago and I, at the time, foolishly and unknowingly, didn't mist coat it.

It doesn't look terrible, but I'm not particularly happy with it (or myself). We have spotlights in the room and it's very obvious where I've cut in, and the majority of the ceiling looks bumpy at best

I want to repaint it now and wanted to ask if I need to mist coat over it before more paint? I'm using matt emulsion brilliant white. Or does it need to be sanded? If sanded, does thr the entire paint job need to be removed or just smoothed over?

Have attached a couple photos but as its a child's room, couldn't get great ones.

Pull light out or at least use masking tape and tin foil to cover.
Sand over the ceiling to smooth off. Probably better to bodge a cheap sander on a vacuum for that.

Find a emulsion. I always liked Leyland smart matt as a really flat matt with a ice white look. Plenty of other good emulsions available.
Read the online application data sheet for the emulsion.

Thanks Wayners for detailed response. The lights do pull out thankfully.

I have a cheap sander that's not on a vacuum but could do the trick.

Regarding the paint; do I need to mix with water for the 1st repaint or just use it neat?

Never painted in bands myself. I know a few who played in them though!

Read data sheet. Probably a bit dry if contract matt was applied so add water as advised on data sheet followed but a full coat
