Hello,

Any idea how much an acceptable repair cost for this would be? I assume the rottted piece of wood will either need complete removal or have a section cut out and replaced. Insurance won't cover this after the stormy weather due to the rooted wood obviosly being there for quite some time before the policy was taken out last year.

I think the whole lot needs taking off and totally replaced with UPVC what you have there is upvc overcladding the original wood. It could well be like that in other places under the cladding upvc.
Sorry I have no much of an idea of cost - only a repair IMO is not worth doing

when we had quotes for new facia and soffits , one company quoted to just clad over the existing wood - i went and got a screwdriver and just pushed it through the wood , and asked them to leave.
when we had the work done , plus other work involving removing the bottom 5-10 rows of tiles , also found a lot of the end of joist rotten - which expected
so the whole thing was repaired , but that was 2017/18

Not sure where in UK you are - but get at least 3 quotes with a full spec of whats included in the price

the quotes we had - for a lot of work, replace flat roof , insulate part of the roof (hence remove the 10 ish rows of tiles
varied by about £8,000....

I dont perticually want to rub salt into the wound but IMO this is a good advert as to why you should not bother with over cloaking. Also do I see asbestos soffit there.

As other suggest, that is what you often find, when the clowns are allowed to botch it, fitting UPVC over the top of timber - it just temporarily hides the rot.

There appears to be little if zero overhang on the verge cloak. Poor detailing means water was been able to wick back and soak the rafter end.

It's a tricky one to price, but with scaffold and subsequent tiles removal, new felt, rafters, noggings, and re-clad, I'd be expected to pay upwards of about £3'000 for localised repairs.
