I broke the lid of my sister's wooden box that is painted. It was split in two. It goes together ok but there is a split across the whole lid from end to end. I am a complete novice at repairing this sort of stuff. What is the best way to go about repairing it? Should I use super glue to get it stuck together? If that is ok do I then use some sort of putty or filler to fill up the gap then paint that to match with the rest of the lid? I was wondering because the lid is split at the sides, would the putty or filler set or would it run out the sides? Here's a photo of it:
