Please see pics below. This window is on the ground floor so I have good access to it. Do I simply need to rub it down and prime it, before finishing with some exterior paint (any recommendations)?

Rub it down initially, then check for any deeper rot or flaky timber, cut out and replace with epoxy based sandable wood filler. Use trade paints for a better finish.

Some of it is rotting.
Remove as much paint as you can from those parts and use a hardener.
Then as per blup's advice.

That is a two part filler. One you remove the paint you'll have a better idea, if you can stick a screwdriver into anything it will be rotten and needs cutting out, it's fairly easy to tell once you get going. Sometimes it can better to use a new bit of timber if you end up cutting quite a bit out.

You can bulk out any gaps with timber offcuts, also remember wood hardener seals rotten timber, two part filler creates a solid replacement. Plenty of YT videos available

I've been using Timabuild resin system for repairing windows.
Also mentioned on this forum is Oxera resin (similar to timbabuild, but cheaper) both do a good job of repairing rotten windows, there is hardener to start with first, then you can splice wood or just fill, depending on how bad the area is.
