Hi
I am a newbie sorry for any blunders.
We have a leaking shower, I think, as the grout around the bottom tiles and on floor outside shower is browning.
I was removing the sealant that was all over the corners and some of the bottom tiles where grout should be and the shower tray edge. But then I noticed how the tiles wobbled at the base of shower and so I took them off (they kind of dropped off!) and the wall behind looks like plaster which was soft and damp and then behind it looks like some kind of insulting board. Our house has external stud walls and this is on one of those. It is not timber framed but metal. I don't know how to describe!
So my questions are many!..
Can a novice repair this?
Do I need to remove all tiles and re board and start with new tiles?
Or could I patch up the plaster and re-tile with original?
Is it bad that the builder put tiles on what appears to be plastered insulating board?
Two of the internal shower walls look like plywood which is black. I have only so far removed about 6 half tiles. I was hoping I could take off tiles carefully till I see wall is sound and then repair wall, clean off adhesive off back of tile and refix/regrout etc.
I have spent many hours looking at internet, investigating cement backer boards, whiterock shower wall etc, but I am no clearer. I was hoping to avoid a large bill as it has been an expensive few months.
I have tried to upload 3 photos, hope it worked!
