Our lawn has taken a battering recently due to building work at the bottom of the garden. some areas are now completely bare, whilst others have a sparse covering. when will be the best time to try and sort it out, and what is the best method of 're-seeding'? The lawn does tend to hold water, but is more on the squelchy side, as opposed to visible puddles...
cheers.

If your sowing seed it'll probably rot on your waterlogged soil, just wait until it warms up abit. Or why not just turf it..nows the ideal time..nearly!

You can turf at any time of the year as its availiable all year round. This is of course providing the ground has been prepared correctly and there is no frost (or snow) on the ground when you lay. :)

The garden bay just be very compacted. Get a fork in it and do a bit or airating. Brush sharp sand into the holes left by the fork. In the spring roughly rake the surface and sprinkle lawn seed on the bare patches.
If you want to lay turf you will need to rotovate the ground first.
