I think its about time I did something to my parents home. The rear of the house has some cracks in the render. Is this something I could do or do I need to call in some builders? By the way I\\\'m female and know nothing about building!

it dipends on what sor tof cracks they are!. Big and deep? as in house subsideing? or just in the render?... if it just the render it could be abigger jon than you suspect anyway. The render maybe "blowing" away from whatever its stuck to. i.e. comming off in patches. In which case it really needs chipping off and redoing in those patches. But if it only some cracks, id get hammer and chisel (and eye protection) chip them out a bit into bigger channels. (Any filler wont work well in narrow cracks). PVA the crack and fill it with something like exterior filler....
