Got to make some repairs and paint over a smallish flat roof which covers a porch and part k living room.

It's pretty old so I am concerned with standing on it.

I also have no idea how these roofs are made, would it have a full deck of floor or would it be jousts running every so often with gaps in between?

Just want to make sure I don't fall through it or totally wreck it by standing on it and painting it.

Many Thanks

You should be OK. Almost all flat roofs can be walked on, exceptions will be garages with something like straw board.

I,m with woody but if you are worried then lay a scaffold board across the roof and stand on that.

I had a rear porch (since demolished) with an almost flat, leaking, polycarbonate roof. I covered it in cold-lay felt as a temporary measure...

Covering a ginger nut with chocolate does not make it a jaffa cake
It kept the rain off for a year until I knocked it down. I was almost hoping that a burgular would try to use it to get to a bedroom window.

Olly330,
you might show your neighbour photos of the desperate state of the boards and framing at the end of their pitched roof. They are wet rotted, and birds and vermin can enter.

As a future project you would do well to also have a pitched roof installed? I notice how the flat roof is drained - that method will fail or block in time.
