Repeated air in radiator

Hello

I would appreciate some advice about my mother's central heating problem. The system is old (>10 years), with floor standing boiler in kitchen and header tank in loft (water level is a couple of inches above the outlet pipe).

Over the years the radiator in the upstairs front bedroom has had to be bled at least once every winter. The frequency is increasing such that this winter I am having to bleed it approx. every 4 weeks. Each time the rad. appears to be approx. half full with air.

Two other rads. on the same floor (bathroom and second bedroom) do not have this problem.

I understand the system contains inhibitor, and when I bleed the rad. I don't notice any smell.

Can anyone suggest what is going on, and how to rectify it.

Ray, next time you bleed the rad hold an inverted jar over the vent and catch whatever comes out. Try to ignite whatever is in the jar.If it lights(usually with a PoP) its hydrogen and some more inhibitor is required.If it doesn't burn then its air and that requires a different solution.Do that 1st and come back.

Will try that when I next have to bleed it - which will probably be later this week as the rad. is apparently getting cooler again.

The trouble is the OP does'nt know its a joke, he has come on here for advice.

Yes, we all like to have a laugh and a joke, but you should of made that clear. I'm not on here to tell you off, but if you feel bad go and stand in the naughty corner.

Hi

Yesterday was asked to bleed the radiator as it was cold again.
Took MT jam jar to collect the gas, but very quickly after starting to bleed it water was squirting out - but the jar was useful to catch it!
Then checked the valves - she had turned theromstatic valve off but insisted she had "left it set on high" (she is in her 80's and gets confused at times!!). Turned up the setting and rad. gets hot again.

Anyway, decided to put clean steel screw in the rad. water - it is showing rust after overnight in it.

Am I right in assuming that this could indicate insufficient inhibitor - although she still insists that the plumber at the time put plenty of inhibitor in about 4 years ago.

I am therefore thinking of getting some Fernox and adding to the system.

Any thoughts please? Many thanks again.
