Replace cracking plaster round inset log burner

Have an insert log burner
Plaster is cracking above the fire
Suspect its just ordinary plasterboard that was used
Been looking at Vitcas render
Then Vitcas plaster
These seem to cost an absolute fortune
What are peoples views on the best product
For this kind of job
