I have 3 downlights in a extension, one wont hold the bulbs as the thred has gone on it. There is no easy access from above, how is the easy way to go about replace this with one like for like. Not sure how its held in i assume by clips to the plaster board if i cant access the clips from above how can i get that out or a new one in ?

I might be able to get it out but getting the new one in seems tricky.

Any sugestions ?

What sort of light fitting is it? Halogen? Or an R80 spot?

I know halogens just pull out - grab the outer ring where it rests against the ceiling, and pull it straight down. It will become clear when you have removed it, how it was held in.

Not sure of the R80 kind though. They might be the same.

Hi its a R80 type, about 7 or 8 years old. Not sure how its fitted i assume its on spring clips like most are, there is no access from above. I guess i can get the old one out buy twisting it and doing it that way, just thinking how i can get the new one to clip in as i cant get to the clips, unless there are any with some form of automatic clips ? ive not seen any.

Thanks

The clips automatically snap into place as you push the fitting up. See the old one when you've pulled it out, for the alignment of the clips.
