replace floorboards

Hi,
I am renovating the house room by room and just wondered the old floorboards are in a right mess, bits missing were they have been taken up over time etc. Should i take them up in the room and replace with the tongue and groove flooring or can i just plywood over the floorboards.

the problems you have with "over boarding" is access for repairs and installation
you also have to cut all the doors for clearance which can make them look unbalanced

I assume best to take them up and replace, the Tongue and groove stuff is the 18mm chipboard, do you think this will suffice better than plywood

in general 400mm centres [400 centres = 360mm between]or less 18mm 350 0r less 16mm

I thought about repairing them but cant find ones the same thickness. It is a victorian house and all the builders merchants dont do those sizes

Have a look around for a wood reclamation centre. You should be able to match existing boards with boards of a similar age. On the other hand, I think chipboard is just horrible.
