We've got an outside halogen security light that no longer works and is 5 yrs+ old. I think it's a 300W but won't know for sure until I borrow a ladder and have a look.
I've got one of these to replace it: http://www.farnell.com/datasheets/2124157.pdf
It's a sealed unit, with a L / N / E captive cable. From memory, there's a cable going direct into the integral terminals of the old halogen light. So an IP-rated junction box on the external wall is needed, I think?
Something like this, with cable glands? http://www.screwfix.com/p/ip65-adaptable-box-80-x-80-x-52mm/14556
The house consumer unit has MCB breakers on each circuit, is that sufficient to follow the requirements in the data sheet?
