Hi

I hope it's OK to post this here ...

I have had a bedroom ceiling replaced as insulation was inadequate, apparently. Board has been plastered but there is now an ugly gap between ceiling and wall most of way around the room.

Builder has caulked gaps, but they're quite large in places and the caulk has sunk back so still not flush and nasty looking.

He told me room is ready for decoration - would you expect expect painter and decorator to sort this problem or should builder have made good?

Many thanks in advance.

Sounds a right bodge up, done by someone who didn't know the job. As Alastair said, it should have been taped/prepped before it was plastered. Probably too late now but the bodger should have "paid you" to get the job sorted. Just a cowboy!!. Have a word with him, see what he says.

The only resolution we could come to was for him to recaulk the gap, which he did and now - surprise surprise, the ceiling is cracking away from the wall.

I'm so frustrated with all of this - my question is, can the room be prepped PROPERLY and replastered/repainted now, or will the ceiling have to come out again?

I'm old and I feel I've been taken advantage of - and obviously I don't understand the ins and outs of plastering.

Many thanks in advance for any advice.

The easiest thing to do is have some coving put up. Although I prefer the plaster coving, it even easier with the light weight ones which you can glue on. IMO coving finishes a room off nicely
