hi there i just replaced my old 8.5 electric shower for a 9.5 , when it was put in originally it never had an isolating switch , is this needed , and does the power feed cable need to be sunk into the wall or can it go inside conduit above the shower on the tiles, also i cant seem to get a steady heat , unless i put it on economy, thx

Whats the shower fuse rated at in the cu / fuse board ?

The isolation of an electrical shower needs to be local to the shower.

Say your wife is being fried due to an electrical fault, if the fuse 40/45 amp doesn't pop then you have to spend 20 secs getting it switched off via the fuse pull / switch on the board.

I guess the board is at the back of an unlit cupboard with a ton of house hold junk in the way  .

Not a nice scenario eh

Could you re-confirm witha diagram or picture what your inetntions are regarding the cable location question when you've confirm the fuse size please.

it is fine to mount the cable in trunking but you must have another isolation switch near the shower but you must no be able to operate once on the shower for obvius reasons the low flow your are haveing trouble with may ce from insuficient mains pressure check the shower is not fed by a 10mm pipe this is coomon on older showers also the shoer cable must nout be smaller than 6mm most older homes only have 4mm which is very insuficent hope this helps
