Hello,
I have an old Barlo Balmoral gas boiler that started to make a very strange banging noise and then suddenly cut off.
At first, I thought it might be trapped air and drained and refilled my central heating but this did not cure the problem.
I have managed to pull off the facia that covered the pipes leading to the boiler, for a closer look, and it now looks like the problem is in the pipe that carries the hot water away from the boiler.
The clunking sounded like two of the pipes are whacking together but buy listening and feeling the pipe (was a bit stupid and got burnt the first time), it sounds like the clunking is from a blockage in the pipe – it sounds like a stone is in there.
I can also feel the hot water try to go along the pipe but when the clunking stops and the boiler cuts out, it appears to run backwards towards the boiler.
Am I correct in thinking that it is possible to get such a build-up of scale that it forms a big lump that can obstruct a pipe?
If so, can anyone suggest a strong agent to put in the system and dissolve it? (There is a B&Q or Screwfix near where I live).
Any help would be much appreciated.
